Our Google Accounts are setup and ready for you to start using. I am excited for all of us to have access to "NEW ULM APPS," a powerful collection of tools to collaborate, communicate, and create. I know, too many C's in one sentence, but it really is exciting to have Google Apps for Education as a school district.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT OUR TRANSITION:

  1. As of today, everyone has access to a large suite of online tools to create, collaborate, and communicate as an innovative school district. These tools are hosted and updated by Google, which allows us to focus much more on instruction and less on maintaining servers.
  2. It is nearly impossible to know and understand ALL of Google's Education tools. To scratch the surface on the variety of ways we communicate and work together, helping all staff navigate and transfer to a faster email and calendar system is a priority for me.
  3. Our Email is going to switch to Google's email, called Gmail. This is scheduled to happen over winter break. Right now your Gmail inbox is empty and continue to be until our incoming email is switched over to Gmail. Our current emails system (Kerio) will be available for at least one year from our switch to Gmail.
  4. Your individual calendars and contacts can be exported from our current email system (Kerio) and imported into Gmail. This will need to be done by each user. I am creating videos, written directions, and will communicate a schedule with you in the near future for technology staff in buildings to support everyone in this transition.
  5. Explore, ask questions, share insight, and support one another. I consider Google Drive & Docs  to be one of the largest assets of our New Ulm Apps. If you have used any of these tools personally PLEASE share when possible.

Please email or call me with all questions and ideas about how this transition impacts you or your team. I want to be transparent about how these tools are implemented and focus on what we are gaining.
